Depression is a mental illness that has been reported to be on the rise, particularly among youth today. The statistics regarding depression are likely to continue increasing if preventive measures are not adequately emphasized. In this context, the present study aims to provide an initial overview of the rising cases of depression in Malaysia. Furthermore, this study seeks to underscore the necessity of developing a depression prevention module from the perspective of hadith. To address the research questions, this study will employ a comprehensive content analysis approach. Consequently, the researchers hope that this study can shed light on the necessity of creating a depression prevention module grounded in hadith. Additionally, this research is intended to encourage further investigation by scholars to develop depression prevention modules based on hadith perspectives. Through the development of such modules, it is anticipated that they will benefit individuals suffering from depression, healthcare practitioners, counsellors, and psychologists in addressing and preventing depression among Muslims, particularly in Malaysia.
Contribution: This research highlights the need to develop a Hadith-based depression prevention module. By mentioning the current situation of depressive disorder in Malaysia, this research also compares the existing depression prevention module in order to underscore the main objective for such a module that needs to be developed.
