He is the vice dean and deputy director for capacity building and interfaith engagement at Muis Academy in Singapore. Hassan has always been interested in philosophy and the history of ideas and civilizations, particularly Islamic education. He specializes in Muslim-Jewish relations, interfaith relations, and the history and philosophy of Islamic law in the Malay Archipelago. Under the supervision of renowned professors Wael Hallaq and Jamil Ragep, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, Islamic Legal Thought and Practices of Seventeenth-Century Aceh: Treating the Others, at McGill University's Institute of Islamic Studies in Canada. Dr. Salwa El-Awa is a Senior Lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Swansea University. She previously was a lecturer in Qur'anic studies in the University of Birmingham's Department of Theology and Religion (2001-2010), where she taught Quran and Hadith Studies. She also taught Arabic philology and linguistics at Ain Shams University in Cairo from 2010 to 2015. Dr. El-Awa authored several publications on the Qur’anic text, including two monographs, The Qur'anic Text: Relevance, Coherence, and Structure (2005), Al-Wujuh Wa al-Naza’ir: dirasa fi Siyaq al-Qur’an (1998), and several academic articles on the issues of text coherence and structure in the Qur’an. Her current research focuses on the textuality of the qur’anic sura, Arabic discourse markers, the role of discourse markers as indicators of textual relations within the qur’anic sura, and the ideologies and histories of Islamic activism in the Middle East. Earlier, Umar taught at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, from 1995 to 1996, and Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, from 1996 to 2006. Professor Umar has served as a consultant on developing a policy framework and action plan for countering violent extremism in Nigeria and UNDP projects on countering violent extremism in Nigeria. Professor Walid A. Saleh studied Arabic language and literature at the American University of Beirut (BA 1989). He earned his PhD in Islamic studies from Yale University in 2001. He was a recipient of the DAAD scholarship from 1996 to 97 and studied with the late Albrecht Noth in Hamburg during this period. Professor Saleh is the editor of the Routledge Qur’an Series. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of the American Academy of Religion and the Journal of Quranic Studies. Professor Saleh teaches courses on Islam, the Qur’an, and Tafsir tradition; he is also a specialist on Arabic paleography and teaches advanced courses on the manuscript tradition of Arabic written literatures. Dr. Victor A. Pogadaev is a Russian historian, lexicographer and translator. In 1970, graduated from the Institute of Oriental Languages, M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. In 1975 he finished PhD Studies at the Institute of Asian and African Studies (IAAS). In different years he was working at IAAS and at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, now he is a lecturer of the Diplomatic Academy and the Moscow Institute of International Relations. He published more than 200 books and articles in Russian, English, Malay, Bengali and Indonesian on the history, culture, literature, languages of South-East Asian countries, compiled several Malay and Indonesian dictionaries. He is the Vice-President of Nusantara Society, a full member of the Russian Geographical Society, a lifetime member of the Association of Modern Languages of Malaysia.
