The work of da'wah is a very noble task. Da'wah is the act of inviting and leading mankind towards goodness and abandoning evil. The work of da'wah requires a very high level of sacrifice because of the various challenges and obstacles faced by the preachers in conveying the call of Islam to the community. Thus, the question raised and discussed in this paper is how the preachers of the past were able to defend Islam in Tanah Melayu from the threat during the colonial era. The objective of this study is to highlight the roles and achievements of the preachers, the challenges faced, and their values and morals in fighting for Islam in Tanah Melayu. The data for the study was obtained from documents and historical information found in relevant books and previous articles. The results of this study concluded that the Islamic preachers of the past were a group of people who were not only very obedient to the teachings of Islam and very firm in defending the religion, but they were also individuals with noble values as well as superior morals. These individuals not only fought via words and writings but also with courage and strength to take up arms to oppose the colonialists in defending the sanctity of Islam.
